Sam "Smit"

This article is about the Virginia producer. For other uses of the name, see Sam Smit (disambiguation).

Sam "Smit" is an American hip-hop and R&B record producer, rapper, and songwriter from Virginia. He writes, produces, and mixes his own records and releases them independently through Sam "Smit" Productions. He is best known for the Play Palace series of extended plays, issued across streaming services through 2026, and for a line he keeps in his public biography: “Bangers be last so that you may be first.”

Published biographies on Spotify and TIDAL describe him as a Virginia-based producer who started producing at the age of 16 and, after about ten years of making hip-hop, set out to work as a prolific independent artist in the 2020s. Those bios name Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, Lil B (“The BasedGod”), Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, and Lex Luger among his influences. He has also billed the work under the names GO GO SAM and Smitonabeat, and he is active on X as @Sam_Smit.

Career

Smit’s own account places him in music since the 2000s. His X account dates to May 13, 2010. In a September 2026 post he distinguished himself from another act using a similar name and described himself as “Sam Smit the producer.” A birth date has not been published. The age-16 detail in the streaming biographies is the most specific early-career fact those pages give, and it is not paired there with a year.

He works from the Petersburg, Virginia area and has treated the records as a one-person shop: the Play Palace tracklist card credits every song as written, produced, and mixed by Sam “Smit” for Sam “Smit” Productions. Distribution is independent. Catalog pages exist on Spotify, Apple Music, and TIDAL, with an Audiomack profile under the name Samsmitg.

Play Palace

The Play Palace project is a numbered run of 2026 extended plays. The first EP arrived on May 15, 2026: six songs, 11 minutes and 26 seconds on Spotify, copyrighted to Sam “Smit” Productions. He had posted the tracklist four days earlier — Power, Thirty, In the Bag, Froze, Stare, and Skies (the last of these released as “To the Skies”) — and pointed listeners to a pre-save.

Later 2026 volumes carried the series through Play Palace 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Play Palace 7, a six-song EP released on September 18, 2026, was marked on Spotify as the artist pick. Tracks issued with that EP include “Show Me My Opponent,” “Show Me Them Bandz,” “I Just Put My Hoe On,” “For the Cake,” “That Level (You Know Wassup),” and “Make Way.” “Show Me Them Bandz” and “That Level (You Know Wassup)” also came out as music videos. A fuller list is on the discography page.

Other releases

Outside the numbered palaces, 2026 releases include the PWDM EP (a set of “Playin Wit Da Money” remixes), the singles “To Da Top” (including an instrumental), “Live It,” and “Old Towne,” and Stare Case, an eight-song hip-hop release dated October 9, 2026 on Apple Music. Streaming “popular” lists have also featured “Thirty,” “Power,” “To the Skies,” “Live It,” and “See Me Act.”

Style

His X biography files the music under hip hop and R&B. The records themselves move among trap, freestyles, boom-bap pacing, and short instrumentals — the producer-first side of the catalog he has described as extensive and spread across services. Themes in the titles and in the way he talks about the work lean on grind, motion, and getting the record out: pre-save posts, same-week release notes, and a motto that tells the listener to let the song finish last so the person playing it can finish first.

The visual world of the series is specific. The May 2026 tracklist card places neon titles over a marble pool room, a staircase, and a night sky — a “palace” that is part luxury interior, part after-hours. Later promo kept that cinematic frame: self-directed videos such as “Power,” “Fly Away,” “Money,” “Muzik,” “Pogo Stick,” “Thick,” and “Airborne Killa.”

Music videos

Apple Music and TIDAL list a 2026 run of videos under his name. Confirmed titles include:

  • “Show Me Them Bandz”
  • “That Level (You Know Wassup)”
  • “Thick”
  • “Power”
  • “Fly Away”
  • “Airborne Killa”
  • “Pogo Stick”
  • “Private Discussion”
  • “Money”
  • “Muzik”
  • “Playin Wit Da Money”

Name

Streaming services style the name Sam "Smit", with quotation marks around the second word, which separates it from the English singer Sam Smith and from other artists credited simply as Sam Smit. On X the display name is set in capitals, often with the current project attached (“SAM SMIT PLAY PALACE EP”). Independent beat and promo work has also used GO GO SAM and Smitonabeat. See Sam Smit (disambiguation).
